GigaScience Press is pleased to announce GigaByte journal has been shortlisted as a finalist in the 2022 ALPSP Awards for Innovation in Publishing. The awards recognise and celebrate the best innovators in professional publishing communities at a time when scholarly publishing is changing rapidly.
While our long established GigaScience journal has previously won the Association of American Publishers PROSE Award for Innovation in Journal Publishing in 2018, this is the first acknowledgement for GigaScience‘s much newer sister journal GigaByte. And with the technological innovation recognised here thanks to the journal’s groundbreaking “pure” XML-first publishing process developed by River Valley Technologies that allows rapid, cost effective, and transparent publication of research. Providing an out-of-the-box solution for researchers to address the UNESCO Open Science Recommendations (see the video showcasing many of these features).
Organised by Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers, the ALPSP is the largest association of scholarly and professional publishers in the world, with nearly 300 members in 30 countries. The yearly ALPSP prize is judged by a wide panel of publishing industry professionals to celebrate any new development, product, service, launch or project which is both innovative and of significant value to scholarly communication. Winners must demonstrate excellence in terms of originality and innovation, significance and value to the community, utility and long-term viability.
The seven finalists that have made the shortlist will be showcased to industry peers on Wednesday 14 September at the ALPSP 2022 Conference in Manchester, UK. With the winners being announced at the ALPSPS Awards Dinner on Thursday 15 September.
Previous winners of this long running award include pioneering Open Access journals such as PLOS ONE and PeerJ, and open science platforms we’ve been long term fans and users of including Publons, Overleaf and Code Ocean. We are proud to join the illustrious list of shortlisted publishing innovators, and look forward to presenting and attending the awards.
